The Memphis Grizzlies Are Having Their Best Season In Franchise History

The Memphis Grizzlies are on pace for their best season in franchise history. In fact, they need to win just 14 of their final 27 games to get to 51-31 following Sunday nights victory over the Brooklyn Nets.

Head coach Lionel Hollins and his crew practically begged management to stand pat and let the Grizz make a run with their roster as-is, but the team traded Rudy Gay to the Toronto Raptors in an effort to help get their financial house in order. Following the trade, the Grizz were routed by the Oklahoma City Thunder, but since then they have won eight of 10 and they are right back on track.

Ed Davis has done very little for Memphis, same with Austin Daye, but Tayshaun Prince has contributed, and should provide some veteran know-how in the playoffs. This should be the first full season where the Grizz can finish as high as second in the Southwest Division (they finished second last season, but that was a shortened season), and they are in a good position to repeat as the No.4 seed in the Western Conference.

There are several teams in the West that are going to get more pub than the Grizzlies, but my hat is off to Lionel Hollins and his crew, as I love their front-court, and I feel like they are a darkhorse this season. For the Grizz to make a playoff run, I think they will need to be a top-four seed in order to secure home court, in at least the first round. It seems to me like the Grizz are an afterthought for most, but I think they have a very solid squad that could surprise people in April and May.
