Mike D'Antoni: Disaster In LA

As of now, the Los Angeles Lakers are 28-30. Tonight, the Minnesota Timberwolves will try to scowl and devour things in the Staples Center. On Sunday, the Atlanta Hawks fly in with their predator instincts as well. On the following Tuesday, Hollywood’s stars will become thunderstruck as they face Kevin Durant and the Oklahoma City Thunder.

Should L.A. be worried? Absolutely. They have become a catastrophe and the butt of endless jokes. They have so much star power, but no luster. More importantly, veterans Kobe Bryant, Steve Nash and Dwight Howard do not threaten opponents. There is no fear in teams that “we’re up against Kobe and the Lakers”. Who is to blame for this disaster in Los Angeles? There’s only one man and his name is Mike D’Antoni.

Why was D’Antoni hired in the first place? Who knows? The fact that he resigned as head coach for the New York Knicks should have been the writing on the wall not to hire him! His resume in New York is disastrous. He had two losing seasons before acquiring Amar’e Stoudemire and Carmelo Anthony. Furthermore, even with the star power of Stoudemire and Anthony, the Knicks were victims of a broom handled by the Boston Celtics.

They did not win one game in that Eastern Conference series!

Eventually, D’Antoni resigned and pulled a Kurt Russell: he escaped from New York. Now he’s in LA. He has Bryant, Nash–who is familiar with his style of offense–and Howard. When Nash and Howard came to LA, people impulsively thought that the Lakers would dominate the Western Conference and would return to the Finals. Boy, we were wrong!

If D’Antoni could do nothing with Stoudemire and Anthony in a major city like New York, what makes anyone think that he can get things done in Los Angeles with Bryant, Nash and Howard? He can’t and he won’t.

Instead of hiring D’Antoni, the Lakers should have kept Mike Brown. If they weren’t pleased with his performance, why not go back with Phil Jackson? The move made no sense and now LA is suffering for it drastically.

D’Antoni is a tragedy and a travesty. If you were wondering what the “D” meant, it means Disaster! There is only one person to fault for LA’s catastrophic performance thus far and that person is D’Antoni. He is responsible for this disaster in LA.

There is a poisonous snake in LA and it’s not the Black Mamba. How long will it be before this snake escapes from LA?
