Tobias Harris is trying his very best to make the Orlando Magic a good basketball team.
He’s coming close.
Harris hasn’t been holding anything back since being traded to the Orlando Magic from the Milwaukee Bucks in an NBA deal that involved J.J. Redick. But his team hasn’t been able to use his skills to have much win-loss success.
The Magic gave the Houston Rockets a good scare before falling 118-110 Friday night.
Harris led all scorers with 27 points. His former team might eventually regret making this trade.
Harris said he likes the situation he’s in…being given a chance to go out and play, learn from his highs and lows and grow as a player.
He’s played exactly 31 minutes the last three games. Against Houston, Harris was extremely entertaining, hitting 11-of-15 from the floor and 3-of-5 in 3-point attempts in scoring 27 points while grabbing six boards. He also brought down 10 rebounds. In a loss to the Sacramento Kings, Harris shot 9-of-12 from the floor, had 23 points and seven boards. In the previous game, a win over the Philadelphia 76ers, Harris was 7-of-8 from the floor for 16 points.
He wasn’t putting up those numbers at Milwaukee. Now he’s getting his chance with the Magic. How he’ll react to defenses putting special attention on him remains to be seem.
For now, Harris is having plenty of fun and the Magic are having fun watching Tobias Harris. But winning is even more fun, and that’s what Harris and his teammates are hoping to do a lot more of in future years.
