But the Spurs have been scoring points against a lot of opponents this season and it’s not easy to match them point-for-point, especially if you’re the Kings.
Marcus Thornton continues to bring smiles to the faces of Kings fans. He came off the bench, again, and had 25 points and five assists. That means Thornton has scored more than 20 points in each of his past three games, all from off the bench.
That’s rather impressive and would make one think Thornton should be starting. Then again, why waste a good off-the-bench experience?
Thornton had 32 minutes of action against the Spurs and went 8-of-13 from the floor and 7-of-7 in free throws. His free-throw shooting has been impressive which is all the more reason Kings coaches want him to attack the basket.
He won’t soon forget his 36-point effort last week against the Miami Heat in which he shot 11-of-18 from the floor and 8-of-12 in triples. But the Heat won that game 141-129, which means there was no such thing as defense that night.
This is the time of season when teams like Sacramento can have fun being spoilers against squads that are hoping to go to the playoffs and also have a strong seeding.
Thornton and the Kings have been scoring impressively lately. Now they need to go back to the fundamentals of defense. If they do that, they can make it interesting for every one of their opponents for the rest of the season.
