It is pretty chilling watching this video. I remember watching Chris Paul on the Wake Forest Demon Deacons, and as a North Carolina Tar Heel fan I was absolutely terrified of him. I would watch Paul with a mixture of fear and wonder at what an amazing player he was. It is crazy to me that enough time has passed that his jersey now hangs in the Demon Deacons’ rafters. It is well deserved, do not get me wrong, but it is just amazing to me how time passes.
As the PA announced Paul’s list of accomplishments, you just have to take a moment and appreciate all that Paul has done in his career, and not just with basketball. Paul was key with the New Orleans Hornets in helping rebuild that community after Katrina, and I’m very happy for Paul and his family. It is perfect that Paul’s jersey now rests besides his late coach Skip Prosser’s banner.
“Thank you, thank you, big thank you. First of all, thank you to my family to my wife and my son and my parents, to my Wake Forest family thank you.” Paul told the cheering crowd. “I appreciate it. To all of my teammates that played with me when I was here it wouldn’t of happened without you guys, I love you guys. It is very fitting that it is next to Josh Howard and to the man who make it all possible Skip Prosser, I love you coach.”
Paul had a thrilling college basketball career and here’s hoping for him that he can watch a championship banner rise to the rafters one day.
