When Blake Griffin was asked if he was surprised Serge Ibaka wasn’t suspended for his below the belt hit on him, Griffin responded “yeah, I kind of was. We’ll see.”
Griffin is wisely not complainly directly about the referees or doing anything that would result in a fine, but you can tell that he is a bit miffed about this. He also hinted that the Oklahoma City Thunder‘s upcoming match with the Los Angeles Lakers had something to do with Ibaka not being suspended.
“It is surprising, but it is a big game tonight and I don’t think they want one of their…I really don’t know. It’s a big game.”
The “…” in the middle of that sentence is telling. You could tell he was about to say something like “star” or “big time players,” but Griffin wisely aborted what might have been some press clippings for the next time the Thunder play the Los Angeles Clippers.
I have to agree that I agree with Griffin after watching the replay; you just can’t have that and still be respected as referees. Griffin is still in a bit of shock, but there is really nothing more to be done about it.
“I don’t really see how it can be let go,” Griffin said. “But I’m not going to do anything about it. I’m not going to cry and complain.”
The best revenge you can get Griffin? Go beat the Thunder in the playoffs. Oh and while you are at it, if there is an opportunity to smack Ibaka in the head in one of the closing games (per Kobe “Bean”Bryant), then don’t hesitate.
