If anyone can end the Miami Heat’s 17-game NBA winning streak, it’s the Indiana Pacers. After all, the Pacers have already beaten the Heat this season including the last time the Miami team lost on Feb. 1 in Indiana.
This time, the game’s at Miami so it will be tougher for the Pacers. If Indiana would meet Miami in the playoffs, the Heat will likely have the home court advantage and Indiana would have to win at least one more on the road.
But Indiana realizes it’s playing well enough to get the job done. They have so many weapons that they should be making the Heat very worried.
Among those weapons that emerged Friday night in a 115-86 victory over the Orlando Magic was D.J. Augustin. He’s a weapon for the Pacers that the Heat and others need to keep an eye on at all times. Augustin has started three games for the Pacers and has usually come off the bench. He saw 26 minutes of action against the Magic, which is 10 minutes more than his per game average. Augustin handled himself well, shooting 5-of-9 from the floor and 4-of-6 in 3-pointers. His triples especially came at critical times to hurt the Magic. He had 14 points. It was his most points since mid-January when he scored 18 .
It wouldn’t hurt if Augustin could shoot like that against the Heat. Chances are Miami will keep an eye on him when he comes into the lineup.
He’s not getting the playing minutes or the production as he did in previous years with the Charlotte Bobcats, but maybe it’s time the Pacers change that.
