After bouncing around from team to team over the last few seasons, guard/forward Corey Brewer appears to have finally found a home with the Denver Nuggets.

Brewer is one of the more unique players in the NBA. At 6’9″ and listed generously at only 185 lbs, Brewer’s slender build with long arms and the quickness of a guard makes him very versatile both on the defensive and offensive ends of the court. Brewer has been a perfect fit for the Nuggets fast-paced, fast-breaking style of play. Brewer attacks the basket with reckless abandon on the fast break, giving the Nuggets a consistent scoring threat when their starters need a breather.

When Denver needs instant offense, Brewer is who they turn to. Brewer currently ranks fifth on the team in scoring with 11.5 points per game in only 23.8 minutes per game, which is a solid rate for a reserve player.

In a season where Jamal Crawford and J.R Smith appeared to be the front runners for the Sixth Man of the Year award, Brewer has had a big enough impact on the Nuggets to at least garner a few votes. Brewer may not be the isolation scorer that Crawford is or the loose cannon with range that Smith has been, but the energy and hustle that Brewer brings to the Nuggets lineup should not be overlooked.

Brewer may not win the award, but he should at least steal some votes from Crawford or Smith. The Nuggets need to keep Brewer around in this role for as long as they can.
