Minnesota Timberwolves’ 3-Point Shooting Woes Only Getting Worse

The Minnesota Timberwolves have won just two of their last eight games. They’ve also gone just 1-4 in their five games in the month of March. This season, where their roster has been ransacked by injuries, the Wolves have been one of the more disappointing teams in the NBA. But even worse than their disappointing 21-39 record this season is their three-point shooting this year.

For the season, Minnesota has the worst team three-point percentage in the league, shooting an abysmal 29.3 percent from beyond the arc. To put how bad that is in perspective, the 29th-ranked 3-point shooting team this year, the Phoenix Suns, are shooting 32.9 percent from long-range, 3.3 percent better than the Timberwolves.

Of the healthy players on Minnesota’s roster, their best 3-point shooter percentage-wise this season is J.J. Barea, but he’s shooting just 34.4 percent. The Wolves have just three players who have shot over 33 percent from three this season and that includes Malcolm Lee, who has appeared in just 16 games this season.

It’s been a rough season from the 3-point line for Minnesota, but March has been even worse thus far.

In the five games that they’ve played in March, Minnesota has attempted 82 shots from 3-point range; they have made just 17 of them. That leaves them shooting just 20.7 percent from beyond the arc for the month of March, which is decidedly the worst percentage in the league. Only one player, Barea once again, is shooting over 30 percent from beyond the arc in March.

Even more troubling, Derrick Williams, Alexey Shved and Luke Ridnour have all taken 13 or more 3-pointers and have hit under 20 percent of them.

Minnesota was obviously going to struggle without Kevin Love and Chase Budinger in general, but their absence has killed their three-point shooting. The Wolves have had a tough go of it this season, and their their 3-point shooting is just making it worse at this point.
