Boston Celtics Draft Prospects: James McAdoo

James McAdoo is a name that could be available to the Boston Celtics by the time they pick in the NBA Draft this summer, obviously depending on what selection they ultimately end up having.  McAdoo is a really interesting guy.  He is currently a sophomore for the North Carolina Tar Heels under head coach Roy Williams and many people were quite surprised that he decided to return to school for this season.  He showed a ton of potential during his freshman year at Chapel Hill and he most likely would have been a top ten pick if he had left school last season.  He has struggled considerably this season and it has cost him quite a bit of money as if the draft were today, he would be lucky to crack the top 20 selections.  This could be a similar situation the Celtics were in last summer when Jared Sullinger fell into their laps.  McAdoo certainly has a lot of potential and he could still be around whenever the Celtics pick, assuming it is around picks 18-25.

McAdoo is a guy Celtics GM Danny Ainge would love to have considering where they will ultimately be picking.  He is not a complete player by any means, but a redshirt season under Kevin Garnett would obviously only help him.  He would not be an immediate contributor next season and is the type of pick that could deliver nice upside in future seasons.  We profiled Minnesota’s Trevor Mbakwe last week and he is the complete opposite of McAdoo in that he is a guy that is ready now and has pretty much reached his ceiling as a high level basketball player.  McAdoo is a nice rebounder but needs to improve his outside jump shot, a common theme for most big men.

James McAdoo is another name the Celtics will target in June.
