Big things happen for the Orlando Magic when Jameer Nelson shoots the ball more. He seems to thrive on more shots and is hitting enough of them to make the Magic a more productive team.

Nelson needs to shoot more and the Magic have to realize that in past games, he is putting up more shots and the team is benefiting as a result.

Nelson put up 22 shots against Oklahoma City Thunder Friday night, hit 10 and wound up with 26 points. The Magic lost, but they made the Thunder sweat the entire way on their home court in a 117-104 NBA game.

The previous game, Nelson put up 19 shots against the Los Angeles Lakers, hit nine of them and wound up with 21 points. The Magic lost 106-97 in Dwight Howard’s return to Orlando, but Nelson gave his team a good chance to beat a surging Laker squad.

Prior to that game, Nelson put up 17 shots, made nine and netted 24 points in an impressive 99-91 win over the Philadelphia 76ers. He is also dishing out the ball like crazy and that strategy is giving him a chance to get open shots.

When defenders try to cover the pass, it allows Nelson a free shot. He’s had 24 assists the past eight games including 10 against the Sixers. He also had 16 points and 14 assists in a one-point loss to Miami Heat earlier this month.

If Nelson keeps shooting and passing a lot, the Magic potentially will have more success the rest of the season.
