Boston Celtics: Kevin Garnett Should Sit Out Tonight Against the Miami Heat

Mark L. Baer-USA TODAY Sports

The Boston Celtics take on the Miami Heat tonight in an effort to stop “the streak”, as it has been labeled lately. The Heat have won 22 games in a row at the moment, and are looking to earn their 23rd against a Celtics team that has been playing well despite significant injuries sustained this season.

On top of point guards Rajon Rondo and Leandro Barbosa being out for the year, the Celtics may be without power forward Kevin Garnett tonight due to a left adductor strain.

With all of the hype surrounding tonight’s game, Garnett would be wise to sit out and continue to get back to full health. Garnett has proved to have the ability to play at a high level and keeps rolling back the clock with his solid play this year. The big man has been good for at least a block and a steal every game this year, on top of averaging around 15 points and eight rebounds.

Few players can continue to play at a high level when they are over the age of 35, but Garnett (36) is doing it and doing it consistently. He has had to be a difference-maker in many games this year, especially because of the fact Rondo has been out.

Garnett has another title on his mind before retiring, and the Celtics are definitely running out of time. It is going to be tough for them to have a legitimate shot at beating Miami in a seven game series come playoff time, but a healthy Garnett will be huge for Boston.

For the sake of Celtics fans enjoying a nice playoff run, he should rest tonight and not let “the streak” come between him and another potential ring.
