Bismack Biyombo showed the other night for the Charlotte Bobcats that he can play excellent defense.
Such a development is not to be taken lightly, considering the Bobcats’ problem all season long on the defensive end. Biyombo played outstanding defensively against Detroit Pistons center Greg Monroe. The Pistons won 92-91, but Monroe was only 2-of-11 from the floor, thanks to Bismack Biyombo’s defense. Biyombo gave his steam a great chance to win.
“Monroe has been hanging big numbers on everybody in the league,” said Bobcats coach Mike Dunlap. “Bis accepted that challenge. You also have to give credit to our four spot because we helped out a lot on Monroe. He had some high assists but you have to pick your poison with the better players. Bis did a great job. He stayed with him the whole way and made good body contact.”
Biyombo had 12 points with 3-of-3 shooting from the floor and 6-of-6 at the free-throw line for 12 points, plus 11 rebounds. It was quite a night.
“Another thing that’s hard to see, where Bis is improving, is his free throws and his left-hand hooks,” Dunlap said. “You can tell he’s coming along. It might not be as fast as some people want, but you have to remind yourself he’s 20 and he’s going against the best fives in the world. He’s learning and his arrow is pointed in the right direction.”
