Kyle O’Quinn realizes someone for the Orlando Magic has to step up in a big way with Arron Afflalo lost for the season.

In the battle of two of the worst teams in the NBA on Wednesday night, the Magic fell short against the Charlotte Bobcats 114-108.

It spoiled an outstanding  game by O’Quinn, who has been given a shot for more playing time and took advantage of it this particular game. It’s not like he was playing against the Miami Heat but he was still under some very challenging circumstances.

Of course, it featured two poor defensive teams, but O’Quinn still put in a fabulous showing in more than 41 minutes of action. He was 11-of-14 from the floor. That shows he went to the hoop under high percentage opportunities and didn’t waste a shot. He had 11 rebounds and six assists.

There’s not much more the rookie from Norfolk State could do. Unfortunately, his team didn’t get the win, but O’Quinn deserved to feel good about his performance.

Prior to this game, he had played in only 46 outings and had started twice, averaging 9.5 minutes per game. Going from an average of less than 10 minutes to more than 40 minutes per game was quite a challenge for O’Quinn.

He obviously handled it very well.

Besides Afflalo, the Magic also have Glen Davis, Andrew Nicholson, Al Harrington and Nikola Vucevic out with injuries. The Magic used only eight players. O’Quinn made the most of the opportunities and should be rewarded with more minutes in upcoming games.
