DeQuan Jones is one of the Orlando Magic players trying to fill the gap left by Arron Afflalo‘s recent season-ending injury.

So far, Jones is doing okay.

The rookie from Miami wasn’t anticipating to do too much for the Magic this NBA season. Just making the team would be his main goal.

But he’s now serving a valuable role for the Magic, which has been depleted with injuries in recent weeks. The Magic might as well pencil Jones into the starting lineup for the rest of the season and see what he can do. They’ve been losing in recent games and have to see who else they might be able to use next season. Jones could be ready to become a full-time starter

The Magic lost to Charlotte Bobcats earlier this week, but Jones, in a starting role, put in 31 excellent minutes for the Magic. He was 6-of-9 from the floor and scored 13 points. He had one steal and only one turnover.

The 13 points was a season high, although he was putting up some decent numbers during the preseason. During the season, it’s been a matter of getting more floor time.

So far, he’s been doing some good things. He has started 14 games this season.

When he’s playing well, Jones is going to get plenty of minutes. In his previous two games, he had scored a combined six points and played a combined six minutes. With the Magic hurting for numbers, Jones will be playing more. He needs to respond.
