2013 NBA Playoffs: Oklahoma City Thunder Should Roll Through to Western Conference Finals
The Oklahoma City Thunder are the favored team to go to the NBA Finals from the Western Conference, despite being a game and a half behind the San Antonio Spurs. This is mostly due to the immense amount of talent on the Thunder’s roster.
Oklahoma City is built for the NBA Playoffs. Kevin Durant is the reigning NBA Scoring Title recipient and Russell Westbrook is one of the best dual passer/scorers in the NBA. As if their offense isn’t scary enough, Thabo Sefolosha is an absolutely amazing defender, and Kendrick Perkins and Serge Ibaka are one of the best blocking duos in the league. There isn’t a starting player on this Oklahoma City team that couldn’t be a superstar in another NBA organization.
The Thunder are one of the most prolific scoring offenses in the NBA. OKC does not miss James Hardin’s (now with the Houston Rockets) points from the bench at all. When Durant is in a scoring slump, Westbrook puts up ridiculous numbers; when Westbrook is in a scoring slump, Durant puts up ridiculous numbers. The only clear-cut way to win against Oklahoma City is to do what the Miami Heat has done in both wins earlier in the season; they stopped everyone not named Westbrook or Durant from scoring.
After being defeated by the Heat in the NBA Finals last season, Oklahoma City does not want to bow out of the NBA Playoffs early. Expect the Thunder to make it to the NBA Finals once again.
