Minnesota Timberwolves’ Rick Adelman Goes for 1,000th Victory Against Detroit Pistons

The Minnesota Timberwolves could finally have something worth celebrating later on tonight. As they take on the Detroit Pistons at home, head coach Rick Adelman is currently sitting at 999 career wins and could become only the eighth head coach in NBA history to accomplish the incredible feat.

To get their coach the prestigious milestone he so greatly deserves, Ricky Rubio and Nikola Pekovic will have to continue their stellar play as of late. Against the Toronto Raptors last night, the Wolves fell short of delivering Adelman his 1,000th victory as they struggled to put away a pretty lowly Raptors team.

Andrei Kirilenko has also been a fairly efficient player since coming back from injury. Last night, he had a very productive game with 20 points, six rebounds and three steals. Pekovic had another solid outing with 24 p0ints and eight rebounds while Rubio scored another double-double with 13 points and 12 assists, while also grabbing five rebounds.

The three of them have not been too bad lately for Minnesota, but it’s the rest of the team that has struggled to get on board. Derrick Williams has kind of evaporated recently and has not been the confident guy we saw earlier in 2013.

One of the big matchups tonight will be Pekovic going up against Detroit’s big man Greg Monroe, who leads the team in both points and rebounds. Rubio will do his thing and put up a solid night against pretty poor defense from the Pistons, but the big deciding factor for Detroit will be whether Monroe can hold his own against Pekovic.

If Pekovic and Rubio continues to hold down the team both offensively and defensively, I see no reason why coach Adelman will not be able to celebrate some history in the making tonight.
