What is Wrong With the Indiana Pacers?
Recently, the Indiana Pacers have been benefiting from their past positive play. Even though Indiana has lost four out of their last five games, they are still having their best regular season in over a decade. It’s just hard to focus on the positives of the recent past when the present push to the NBA Playoffs has been so utterly disappointing.
Last week, the Pacers won their fifth-ever Central Division title thanks in part to a loss by the Chicago Bulls. This Sunday, Indiana locked up the third seed in the Eastern Conference playoff standings due to a loss by the Brooklyn Nets. Despite losses mounting up at the worst possible time, the Pacers still find themselves in a good position to finish the season.
Indiana continued to slump on Sunday, losing to the New York Knicks at Madison Square Garden for the second time this season. The Pacers have lost by double figures in both away games against the Knicks this season. Indiana committed a pitiful season-high 26 turnovers in the loss, which led to a season-high 33 points from the opposing team. Sunday’s game also marked the fifth time in a row that the Pacers were down by at least 20 points during a contest.
The Pacers may have to get familiar with playing in the Garden. If Indiana and the Knicks win their first-round series, then these two teams will clash in the second round of the Eastern Conference Playoffs. Indiana has already given up the second seed to the Knicks, which means that they have also conceded home-court advantage to New York if the two teams should meet again.
