It wasn’t a very good season for the Phoenix Suns as they finished with a 25-57 record. The Suns parted ways with general manager Lance Blanks on Monday and are looking at many candidates to replace him. The person who gets this job is going to have a huge hill to climb with trying to rebuild an organization and a team that finished with the fourth-worst record in the NBA this season.
There are still players like Marcin Gortat and Goran Dragic to build around, but this team needs an influx of free agent talent. I’m not sure if they will be able to find that out there though. The biggest available players appear to be Dwight Howard, Andrew Bynum, Al Jefferson and Chris Paul. The new GM is going to need to decide if any of those four players would be worth going after. I would love to have any of those players on my team, especially either Jefferson or Paul, but I’m just not sure if any of them would want to go to Phoenix.
The two names that strike me as the most likely general manager candidates would be current Suns analyst Eddie Johnson or former Phoenix employee David Griffin. The two of them are probably most familiar with the organization and would make the transition a bit smoother. It is going to be an interesting offseason for the Suns and which direction they decide to go. The first order of business though is getting the GM search over with and deciding if that new person wants to fire current coach Lindsey Hunter or not. You would have to think that Hunter would be out no matter who takes over.
