2013 NBA Draft Prospect Profile: Otto Porter, Small Forward, Georgetown

Name: Otto Porter

Age: 19 (will be 20 by draft)

Height: 6-foot-8

Position: Small Forward

School/Country: Georgetown

Latest Stats: 16.2 ppg, 7.5 rpg, 2.7 apg, 1.8 spg

As a sophomore at Georgetown, 6-foot-8 small forward Otto Porter lived up to the expectations that were laid out before him. While transitioning into his second season for the Hoyas, Porter was expected to star and be the catalyst that allowed Georgetown to compete within the upper half of the conference. Well, Porter exceeded even those expectations by having an All-American sophomore year. Porter averaged 16.2 points and 7.5 rebounds per game this season, but at times he single-handily lifted the Hoyas to another level and that’s the type of potential that has warranted the attention of numerous NBA organizations.

Porter is looking like a guaranteed lock to hear his name called within the lottery portion of the first round. In fact, it will be a total shock if he even slips outside the top ten — so don’t expect it. Porter will be among some of the first few names called within the 2013 NBA Draft.

Strengths: Porter is an on-the-rise prospect with great size and potential. At 6-foot-8, Porter can stretch the defense and play on the perimeter. He can be downright unstoppable at times, albeit he will need to adjust his game to that of the NBA level next season. Porter however, is composed and has great basketball awareness, so his adjustment shouldn’t be too much of a worry.

Weaknesses: Porter has been moving up the charts ever since he was in high school. A late bloomer, Porter has emerged as more than just a potential impact performer at Georgetown — he’s now a potential impact performer for some lucky NBA franchise. With that being said however, Porter is still a bit raw and coming into his own game. He still has things to work on and will need to adjust to a more faster-paced game at the next level. Can he be that eventual dominate player on the perimeter that his size suggests?
