By Paul Seaver

Name: Dennis Schroeder

Age: 19

Height: 6-foot-2

Position: Point Guard

School/Country: Braunschweig (Germany)

Latest Stats: N/A

Dennis Schroeder is not a name that most basketball fans recognize, but someday it just might be. An original native of Braunschweig, Germany, Schroeder is quickly rising up the projections for the 2013 NBA Draft. At 6-foot-2, Schroeder had a nice little coming out party at the Nike Hoop Summit just last month, pacing the World Team’s back court in their victory over the USA. Schroeder finished that contest by scoring 18 points and dishing out six assists.

Schroeder is not the top point guard in this year’s draft class, but he’s certainly up there. A young and improving floor general, Schroeder could have the ability be a very reliable point guard in the NBA. His draft stock has continued to rise and he’s looking like a sure thing for one NBA franchise in the first round. Based on team needs, Schroeder could potentially rise into the teens on draft night.

Strengths: Schroeder can run an offense, but his best attribute that relates to the NBA game is his speed and quickness. Schroeder is lightning fast and that’s crucial given his stature at 6-foot-2. He’s only 19 years old, so it’s easy to understand why Schroeder’s potential is still on the rise. Schroeder has an incredibly quick first step, allowing him to blow by defenders — a key component at the NBA level.

Weaknesses:  Schroeder isn’t all that great going to his opposite hand (left), but defenders still have to limit his first step. He’s young, so improvement is necessary considering Schroeder has somewhat burst onto the scene in terms of being an NBA-caliber point guard. He’s raw and can be easily knocked off his positioning against bigger guards at the professional level. Schroeder will need to get bigger and learn how to play a more physical game on the perimeter.

Draft Projection: Mid-to-Late First Round
