2013 NBA Draft: Phoenix Suns Should Draft Otto Porter Jr.

Howard Smith-USA TODAY Sports

The Phoenix Suns are a team that needs a lot of help at different positions. The only way I see the team getting any better though is going through the draft to do it. Phoenix is going to have one of the top picks no matter what in the upcoming NBA Draft and should be looking for a shooting guard prospect. The obvious choice would be Otto Porter Jr. who could play the wing and provide 12-15 points a game probably.

Porter Jr. averaged 16.2 points and 7.5 rebounds a game this season for the Georgetown Hoyas in his sophomore year. I like the fact that Porter Jr. played two years of college basketball as well because he may be more mature than some of the other prospects that are coming out this year. Phoenix has an obvious hole at that position because I don’t trust Jared Dudley to be a consistent player. We will have to wait and see who the general manager and coach of this team will be next season as well because that will make just as big of a difference.

I don’t see why Porter Jr. couldn’t come in and get this team back on the winning track. It may not be this coming year or the next year, but if things can continue to improve, I would think the Suns could make the playoffs two years from now. The constant ups and downs that teams experience in the NBA these days make me believe that an upswing from Phoenix has to come sooner than later. The upswing can begin sooner than later if the Suns get a chance to draft Porter Jr. in June.
