2013 NBA Playoffs: Derrick Rose Reportedly “Might Have a Chance” to Play in Series vs Miami Heat

Debby Wong-USA Today Sports

Ah yes, here we go again.

After the Chicago Bulls eliminated the Brooklyn Nets in seven games on Saturday night, you knew that the speculation surrounding Derrick Rose would either continue or pick up. Well, it’s done both.

According to a report from USA Today, Rose could possibly return during the Bulls’ series with the top-seeded Miami Heat. Rose told USA Today on Monday, “Still in the air. I might have a chance.”

While Rose continues to leave Bulls’ fans hanging, his decision to return to the hardwood is about as uncertain as one’s playoff potential. The two go hand-and-hand if you think about. If the Nets had won Game 7, there would be no speculation on a possible return.

Rose has barely addressed the media or the public in regards to his injury, so all you have are rumors and speculation that continue to surround him and his potential return. While Monday’s report indicates that Rose has simply not ruled out a possible return this series, that much so was probably already expected. As long as he doesn’t take to the media and state, “I am done for the playoffs,” then this speculation about a “chance” of returning will only continue.

Sure, the Bulls probably need Rose to upset the Heat in this Eastern Conference semifinal showdown, but let’s give credit where credit is due. The talk surrounding Chicago should be all about the play of guys like Joakim Noah, Carlos Boozer and Nate Robinson, just to name a few. They’re the ones that — despite a depleted lineup — have shined and helped the Bulls even advance to this point.

Rose has already been ruled out for Game 1. Tip-off is scheduled for 8:00pm (EST).
