Kevin Love Will Remain with Minnesota Timberwolves

Brace Hemmelgarn-USA TODAY Sports

There have been rumors flying for a long time now about whether or not the Minnesota Timberwolves will trade Kevin Love. The departure of David Kahn and the arrival of former coach Flip Saunders as the team’s new president of basketball operations make it obvious what will happen with Love this offseason. There is no way at all I see Minnesota trading their star away now with Saunders in charge.

Saunders was the coach in Minnesota from 1995-2006 and while he was gone before Love was drafted, he was there when Kevin Garnett was with the team. He knows how important a superstar is to the fans in Minnesota, and I have to believe that he will be going out looking for players to help Love rather than trading him away.

It will come as a relief to the fans in Minnesota if Love ends up staying in town. He should begin next season healthy and with a team that could easily improve by 10 games next season, a playoff run isn’t out of the question.

Love averaged 18.3 points a game during the 18 games he played while dealing with injuries. Minnesota could easily get a huge package of players back from Love including draft picks,  but I would prefer to build around Love. Saunders will make it a point to do that and the Timberwolves will be better off because of it.

There are a lot of things to love about what is to come for Minnesota and their future potential. It will all start if Saunders keeps Love around.
