2013 NBA Playoffs: Will Jason Kidd Ever Score Again for the New York Knicks?

Jason Kidd New York Knicks

Joe Camporeale – US TODAY Sports

When future Hall of Fame point guard Jason Kidd first entered the league way back when in 1994, his peers affectionately referred to him as “Ason Kidd” because he had no “J” or jump shot. While the dastardly floor general may not have needed proper form on his shot back then, as he destroyed opposing defenses by setting up his teammates for easy looks, Kidd managed to morph his game as he got older and developed quite the three-point shot.

Jason managed to go from not being able to hit the back side of a barn to ranking third all time in three-point field goals made behind only sharp shooters Reggie Miller and Ray Allen. Kidd has also made some more recent history, however, as he became the only the player in league history to not record a single point in six straight playoff games having played at least 10 minutes in each contest. Kidd racked up a total of 24 minutes in the New York Knicks Game 2 win over the Indiana Pacers without scoring.

Perhaps the NBA’s second all time leading assist man has finally met his match with father time. Although he still does provide some solid defense and above average rebounding, particularly for a point guard, Kidd often times looks incredibly reluctant to pull the trigger on the most open of shots, shots that he should not only take, but make. Rather, J-Kidd seems to look for just about anybody he can pass the ball to before putting up a shot and taking advantage of the open look.

While Kidd may not have scored a single point in any of the last six playoff games he has played, he is too good of a player with a rich history of excellence to continue at this torrid pace. Look for Jason to rebound strong, snap out of his funk and provide a lift for the Knicks in their Game 3 bout against the Pacers on Saturday night.
