Dallas Mavericks owner and marketing genius Mark Cuban knows how to get his team’s fans involved. Known for his creative marketing strategies and entrepreneurial prowess, the eccentric owner is now calling for fans to help design the team’s new jerseys.

Though there are a handful of variations of the current design, the Mavericks last re-designed their jerseys in 2001; because in the NBA looks tend to be just as important as talent, it’s about time for the franchise to adopt a new look.

Yesterday, Cuban issued the following challenge to Mavs fans via his personal blog:

The Mavs are going to re-do our uniforms for the 2015-16 season… if we get a unique and original design. What’s the best way to come up with creative ideas ? You ask for them. So we are going to crowd-source the design and colors of our uniforms.

You know what an NBA uniform looks like. You know what the Mavs colors are for today and the past.  We want some new ideas that stay true to our logo and at least close to our current color schemes. Show us what you got !

The idea has been met with a bit of resistance from Mavs fans, some accusing the billionaire of being “cheap.” In all fairness, Cuban has proven that he is anything but, and honestly, it’s a brilliant way to get the fans involved after an incredibly disappointing season.

Though he hasn’t mentioned what the winner will get other than the possibility of some tickets, you have to admit it would be pretty cool to see your favorite team wearing a jersey that you designed and created.
