The Boston Celtics should look into giving Courtney Lee another chance to prove his worth. It was definitely an underwhelming season for Lee, who was brought in to replace Ray Allen and combine with Jason Terry to provide a spark off the bench. Lee struggled in his first year with the Celtics, and he was never able to establish his role with the team.
Lee was brought in on a sign and trade deal from the Houston Rockets. He is known for his defensive skills and three-point shooting, and that made him a perfect fit for this Celtics team. Lee was put into some difficult situations going in and out of the starting lineup only to being banished to the end of the bench dung the playoffs. An ankle injury kept him out of the lineup for the last part of the season, and that caused his playing time to be taken by Jordan Crawford.
Lee has earned a second chance because he had some positive moments like when he was teamed with Avery Bradley and they formed an elite defensive back court nicknaming themselves the “pit-bulls.” They wreaked havoc on the guards they faced forcing them into bad shots and turnovers. There is a lot that Lee can contribute to this team, and he can be paired with Terry on the bench to give the Celtics a nice scoring punch when needed.
With Rajon Rondo set to come back and a healthy Bradley for the start of the season, Lee should be able to slide into the role the Celtics signed him for which will give him the comfort to perform at the highest level.
