Top Five Moments in Allen Iverson’s Philadelphia 76ers Career
Top Allen Iverson Moments
Without question, Allen Iverson was one of the best players to ever put on a Philadelphia 76ers uniform. There is no doubt he was the most electric and most passionate to step on the court throughout the late 1990s and early 2000s. After being selected number one overall in the 1996 NBA draft, Iverson set out to change the culture of basketball in Philadelphia from there on out.
There were some highlights and some lowlights throughout Iverson’s tenure in a 76ers uniform. His list of accolades goes on for miles as he was an 11 time all-star, four time league scoring champion, three time first team All-NBA, Rookie of the Year in 1997 and Most Valuable Player in 2001.
Off the court, Iverson has run into his fair share of legal and financial issues, ranging from gambling debts to problems with alcohol and divorce from his wife.
While he may not be the ideal citizen, Iverson epitomized Philadelphia basketball. Toughness, tenacity and desire were all qualities that he possessed and all qualities the blue collar fans of Philadelphia could relate to. Make no mistake almost all fans were able to look past the off the court issues Iverson had and see him strictly for the player he was on the court.
Just look at his return to the team in 2009 as proof enough. A team that was struggling and going nowhere brought Iverson back for one farewell run and the seats were full for almost every game he played in. It was fitting that Iverson ended his NBA career in the city where it all began, and it brought back some great memories of everything he did for this fan base and this city. Here are five that really stood out.
Iverson Wins Rookie of the Year
When the Sixers took A.I. with the number one overall pick they knew they were getting a special talent. Iverson proved that from the very beginning by winning the 1997 Rookie of the Year Award when he averaged 23.5 points, 4.1 rebounds and 7.5 assists. This was the start of a Hall of Fame career.
Iverson Drops Career High 60 Points

In one of the most amazing things you'll ever see, Iverson faced off against Michael Jordan in his rookie year and did the unthinkable by putting a sick crossover on MJ and got a tough bucket. Iverson Wins MVP
The 2000-01 NBA season was a magical run for the 76ers. It's no coincidence that Iverson's only MVP award came in the year he led his team to an appearance in the NBA Finals. Iverson led the league in scoring (31.1) and steals (2.5) per game that year and it was an award well deserved.

Without doubt, the iconic moment in Iverson's career came in game one of the NBA Finals against the Los Angeles Lakers. Although it was the only game this Cinderella team was able to win in the series, it was a great run and was capped off by the infamous Tyronn Lue stepover that no Sixers fan will ever forget.
