Latest Stats: 7.8 ppg, 4.2 apg, 2.4 rpg
It’s been an up-and-down career for North Carolina senior guard Dexter Strickland, but he’s simply never emerged as more than just a role player in the Tar Heels’ rotation. Strickland, who stands at 6-foot-3, averaged 7.8 points per game this past season, a career-high for the New Jersey-native. Strickland has the ability to play the point guard position, so he’s become more of a combo threat after averaging 4.2 assists per game in 2012-13.
Strickland will shoot the three ball, but it’s not really his cup of tea, which is why he has never really broadened his game from an offensive standpoint. Strickland’s best chance of professional basketball is probably overseas, so don’t expect this combo guard to hear his name called on that final Thursday in June.
Strengths: Strickland has the ability to dish the ball and he has good court awareness on the offensive end. Although he plays the shooting guard position, he’s not limited in the back court to what he can provide. Strickland can run an offense, if necessary and he is a solid defender on that end of the floor.
Weaknesses: Strickland has never been anything more than a role player throughout his career. His 7.8 points per game this past season were a career-high, so he’s not a scorer. Strickland needs to improve on his outside shooting as he has virtually become a non-existent threat from the perimeter.
Draft Projection: Undrafted
