Brooklyn Nets Wanted Doc Rivers, Get Denied

The Brooklyn Nets need to make a big splash when they decide on their new head coach. It looks like the team was trying to do just that as they attempted to lure Doc Rivers away from the Boston Celtics. I love the idea, but according to other reports, Brooklyn was denied access to talk to Rivers. He has three years left on his contract with Boston, and I’m not surprised that the Nets didn’t get a chance to talk.

While the Nets didn’t get their chance to talk to Rivers, the thought of wanting him should make the other players on the team now think really hard about where the team is going. It is a bold move to try to get a coach in your same division to come in. It was a great step and something that would have been quite interesting to see. I bet that Rivers would have been able to deal with Deron Williams as well which is a major factor.

Brooklyn will look elsewhere, but it will never find a better candidate for the job than Rivers. We will all have to wait and see who ends up being the new coach of the Nets, but no matter who it is, I don’t think it will be as successful as a Rivers move would have been. The Nets might be close to contending in the Eastern Conference, and with the nucleus they have, I think they will make it past the first round next year. I don’t think that they can go any deeper than that, however.
