Dallas Mavericks Need More Than Just Trying to Sign Dwight Howard
There are going to be a lot of NBA teams who decide to go all-in during free agency this offseason. The Dallas Mavericks are one of those teams, and it looks like they are prepping to make a run at Dwight Howard. He is going to cost a ton of money, but it would bring a second superstar to town to go with Dirk Nowitzki. The move, however, is one that I’m not a huge fan of.
We have seen over the last couple of years that Howard isn’t a pure leader. He likes to complain and wants everyone to like him, and that’s not a leader to me. A leader is someone who will take whatever comes at him and fights back or rolls with the punches. I like what Dallas could do with a combination of Howard and Nowitzki, but for this to work, another move is needed. The Mavericks are going to need to bring back O.J. Mayo as well to fill out a talented top-three.
Mayo would bring the shooting and scoring touch, Howard can take the job of getting all the big rebounds, and Nowitzki can continue playing on the outside. Dallas will also get a great draft pick to add to this mix, and that will only help even more. There are a lot of moving pieces in this as I’m sure Howard will be courted by a lot of different teams this offseason. I’m not positive in the end that he wants to go to Dallas, but I’m sure the Mavericks will make it very hard for him to turn them down.
