2013 NBA Draft: Nerlens Noel May Slip to Washington Wizards

There will be numerous scenarios and mock drafts done between now and the 2013 NBA Draft. The Washington Wizards have the third pick in the draft, and recent speculation has me thinking that the team could end up with Nerlens Noel.

If that does happen, there will be people doing backflips for the Wizards.

There has been talk that the Cleveland Cavaliers are thinking about taking Otto Porter, Jr. with the top overall pick. The Orlando Magic has the second pick, and I think they may trend in the direction of a player like Ben McLemore. That would leave Noel available to pair with John Wall and Bradley Beal for Washington.

It could be a pipe dream for that to happen, but there are going to be people who are concerned about the torn ACL that Noel suffered last season. It shouldn’t send him tumbling down the draft board, but it could send him all the way down to the No. 3 pick.

The Wizards could allow Noel to sit out the first half of the season while they still have Emeka Okafor on their roster, and may be able to bring him in slowly by January or February. The odds of this happening aren’t very good, but it is something that is worth thinking about with a month until the draft arrives.

We will see if Washington gets a chance to take Noel or not, but they can’t pass on him if he is available with the third pick. I’m sure more rumors and ideas will be floating out there between now and June 27.
