Another day, another interesting NBA Draft rumor.
According to ESPN‘s Chad Ford, the Orlando Magic are considering a move with their No. 2 overall selection. In addition to the pick, the Magic are potentially exploring the consideration of sending Arron Afflalo to the west coast in exchange for the Los Angeles Clippers‘ Eric Bledsoe.
Now, assuming that the Cleveland Cavaliers select Nerlens Noel with the No. 1 pick, you would think that the Magic could have their choice of anyone on the board. They could add a high-flyer in Ben McLemore or rangy forward in Otto Porter Jr. or even a point guard for the future in Trey Burke.
However, maybe they are not sold on any of the options.
Bledsoe has been the subject of a few trade rumors this off-season, most notably with the Boston Celtics, but would he be worth the No. 2 overall selection in a deal that would also include Afflalo? Bledsoe can play the point, but he’s always been more of a combo guard. There’s no doubt that his best days could be ahead of him and if the Magic are sold on him rather than a player like Burke — then hey, why not consider the deal?
In fact, this year’s draft is widely being considered as one of the weakest in recent memory, so trades like this one are not all that farfetched. Bledsoe is not worth the No. 2 pick overall in any other year, but here in 2013, it’s an option that the Magic can certainly opt to pursue if they’d like to.
