Houston Rockets Won’t End Up with Dwight Howard

I know that they are going to be a lot of NBA teams in hot pursuit of Dwight Howard this offseason, but the question is whether or not the Houston Rockets should be one of the teams that make a strong move towards getting Howard to come to town.

I’m not sure that it would be the right move to make for the Rockets though, even with the problems they have.

Howard would go to a Houston team that already has a center in Omer Asik who was very good last season, averaging 10.1 points and 11.7 rebounds a game. Howard would probably be then forced to play power forward, which isn’t his natural position.

This team needs someone who can play defense, and while Howard has been one of the best at that, I don’t see the space on this roster to make it happen. The core of James Harden, Chandler Parsons and Asik should be enough for this team to make the playoffs again next season.

I know that a title is the ultimate goal, but the salary cap space could be a problem in trying to make this move. If Houston can make a trade or two to free up more space under the cap without giving away many of their younger players, I could see it happening.

It isn’t likely, though, and Howard will find his way to another team, while the Rockets will have to find a way to make things work with what they got on the roster already.
