Golden State Warriors Need a Healthy David Lee

Kelley L Cox-USA TODAY Sports

The Golden State Warriors are looking like a team that is going to make some serious noise in the NBA for years to come.

If the Warriors want that to happen though, they are going to need a healthy David Lee, who underwent hip surgery on Thursday to repair a torn hip flexor. It sound like he will be ready to go when next season begins.

Lee averaged 18.5 points, 11.2 rebounds and 3.5 assists a game this season and became the team’s first All-Star in 16 years. Lee is the key to this Warriors team outside of Stephen Curry. There was no way that the Warriors would have made it as far as they did in the playoffs this season without Lee during the regular season.

He tried to play in the playoffs with the injury, but wasn’t nearly as successful. That’s why this surgery had to be done as soon as it was possible so he would have enough recovery time.

This will be an offseason to watch very closely with the Warriors. Do they go out and try to pick up another big name to add to Curry and Lee? Will they just stick with what got them to the point? This team is very close to taking the next step. It may not be next season, but I would watch out for Golden State the following year, especially with the Curry/Lee tandem.
