New Orleans Pelicans Face Decision With Eric Gordon’s Future

Kelley L Cox-USA TODAY Sports

If the New Orleans Pelicans are going to make a big move in the NBA next season, they are going to need to decide on some of their players.

The first name that comes to mind would be Eric Gordon. He had surgery in May to have bone spurs removed from his left ankle and finally got the walking boot off recently. Gordon holds the key to where this franchise goes from here.

The injury may sway some teams away from wanting him for their own roster, so it is very possible that he will stay in New Orleans next season. If that happens though, Gordon is going to be counted on to be more of a leader than he presently is.

The team should want Gordon because of his injury history and the fact that he can’t seem to get through a full season. It is always possible that he has a setback during his recovery and that would be terrible for the Pelicans.

Gordon is the biggest trade chip out there for New Orleans this offseason, and they must use him wisely. I have suggested before that New Orleans should use Gordon to move up in the NBA Draft in June. He is only 24-years old and has a ton of ability.

He wouldn’t normally be the type of player that you want to trade away, but the injuries are just too much.
