The Sacramento Kings are moving forward here in 2013 with a new head coach in Michael Malone. Ironically enough, he has ties to one of the most sought after free agents in this year’s class — Chris Paul.
Oh sure, Paul would be targeted by almost every team in the NBA if possible, but let’s think realistically. There are front runners for the star point guard and at this point, there’s no reason to think that he won’t even remain with the Los Angeles Clippers, depending on who they hire as a new head coach.
“Obviously, Chris would look pretty good in a Sacramento Kings’ uniform without a doubt,” Malone told the Sacramento Bee. “He’s a great friend, somebody I had a great relationship with when I spent time with him in New Orleans. We stay in touch. He’s got a lot of things going on right now. As I told him recently, I care about him. I hope he’s okay, and whatever decision he makes is best for him and his family, and I’ll always be rooting for him.”
So of course, one simple connection between a new coach and a free agent point guard is not enough to warrant much attention. Yet then again, isn’t that exact connection that the Clippers are trying to establish with their own coaching change?
Eh, another rumor, with uncertain ground. It’s probably not likely that Paul would be interested in a non-contending squad like the Kings at this point in his career.
