Memphis Grizzlies: Lionel Hollins Wants to Stay, Deserves the Respect

After the Memphis Grizzlies gave permission for other teams to speak to head coach Lionel Hollins, the market immediately opened up with potential suitors. Hollins’ name has been linked to teams like the Los Angeles Clippers and Brooklyn Nets already as one of the top choices for either franchise.

With the Clippers letting go of former coach Vinny Del Negro, they have been said to be interested in Hollins and are expected to meet with him in the near future.

The Nets are also in the same type of situation. They fired P.J. Carlesimo after getting ousted in the playoffs and have already said that Hollins is atop their list with other names like Jeff Van Gundy and Brian Shaw.

But, does Hollins really see himself heading elsewhere? He has said that he wishes to stay in Memphis and I couldn’t agree with his sentiments more. The Grizzlies are a perfect scenario for him and he has proven to be able to lead that team higher and higher every year.

The Grizzlies are simply not giving him the utmost respect that he deserves. Apparently they have had “philosophical differences” leading to Hollins’ name hitting the market for a potential departure.

Hollins has given the Grizzlies an identity that they hadn’t had previous to Hollins’ leadership – a defensive juggernaut. If they let go of Hollins, who replaces him? I don’t see any coaches on the hiring block as good as Hollins has been, especially in regards to a defensive tenacity he has given his team.

If I’m Memphis, I work it out and let him stay. He wants to be there and deserves to be there. Don’t make the mistake of letting go of a coach of his caliber.
