Memphis Grizzlies Rumors: Luol Deng Trade Rumor Squashed
It has been an eventful offseason so far for the Memphis Grizzlies. Letting go of head coach Lionel Hollins surely turned some heads around the league after Memphis made it all the way to the Western Conference Finals. Heading into the offseason, there have even been rumors of more moves to come.
One of the rumors lately has involved Chicago Bulls forward Luol Deng. Apparently the Grizzlies were said to have wanted Deng in a trade this summer and were going to go hard after him. For Memphis, it would have made sense especially because they are such a gritty, defensive team.
The Bulls on the other hand would not see much in return, as there is really nobody that intrigues them in return that would be cap-friendly. Going into next year’s free agency period, the Bulls should have a relatively decent number to work with as far as cap room goes.
The rumor was originally said to come from Andre Johnson from Memphis Sports News, but after reaching out to him, he tells me the rumor was false all along. For the Grizzlies, it would have been quite the addition to the squad.
Now that this rumor is done with, we can concentrate on the offseason at hand for the Grizzlies. The search for a head coach is on, and many believe the team could be targeting Brian Shaw, George Karl or even Jeff Van Gundy. Those three have been three of the top coaching candidates on the market at this time and would certainly merit a look.
So, Grizzlies fans, it looks like there are no moves to be made right now. But very soon we should be on the lookout for a move in the front office to be made, bringing in the teams’ new leader on the sideline.
