Let the Dwight Howard rumors commence.

After a long and drawn out off-season a year ago for Howard, the Los Angeles Lakers took a chance and got mixed results in his final season prior to hitting the free agent market. In turn, the Howard sweepstakes are now heating up as free agency looms on Jul. 1.

Well, according to Steve Kyler of USA Today Sports, the interest in Howard has widen and two new teams have entered into the discussion:

While the teams linked to Howard at this point are just that — the two teams that we had not seen mentioned in connection with the free agent center prior to Thursday morning include the San Antonio Spurs and the Brooklyn Nets.

The Nets are now automatically the most interesting team in this discussion, simply because they recently made the decision to hire Jason Kidd as their next head coach. With no prior experience, Kidd takes over at the age of 40, just nine days after retiring. So with that being said, there’s no telling what Brooklyn has up their sleeve next.

After earning the No. 4 seed in the Eastern Conference this past season, it’s clear that Brooklyn is still one step away from becoming a true contender. Howard could certainly take them to that next level, if this possibility is for real.

According to the above tweet from Kyler though, it appears that Howard could very well be the team’s top target. A sign and trade is the only option, but it will certainly be interesting to see if the Lakers are willing to strike a deal later this summer.
