The 2013 NBA Coach of the Year was fired this off-season — we know, it’s not something that you are used to seeing. But regardless, the Denver Nuggets made the decision to relieve George Karl of his duties earlier this month and that has opened the door for other organizations to pursue him.
First up, the Memphis Grizzlies.
The Grizzlies decision to target Karl certainly comes as no real surprise. In fact, the Nuggets may even be interested in former Memphis head coach Lionel Hollins, so a swap certainly wouldn’t be all that much out of the question. Regardless, Marc J. Spears of Yahoo! Sports tweeted the news on Thursday afternoon that the Grizzlies will play host to Karl in an interview on Monday:

Karl is probably the biggest headline name in the Grizzlies’ coaching search, so if they are looking for a flare with their newest hire, they might not have to look any further than the former Nuggets’ head man. However, there are other names that have emerged in connection with Memphis’ search.
Karl can coach, we know this, but Denver was not all that satisfied with their early playoff exit once again. After earning the No. 3 seed in the Western Conference, the Nuggets were one and done, despite recording the NBA’s best home record during the regular season.
This could be a good fit for both sides, but we will what extends from Monday’s interview.
