2013 NBA Free Agency: Top 5 Landing Spots For Andre Iguodala
Top 5 Potential Landing Spots For Andre Iguodala
On Friday afternoon, Denver Nuggets small forward Andre Iguodala made the decision to opt out of his final year and enter the free agent market later this summer. The news certainly comes as a bit of shock financially as Iguodala will be leaving an astonishing $16.1 million on the table to test the market.
It can be assumed that Iguodala is looking for stability and a longer contract and it's a situation that he may very well be hoping to close the door on this summer, rather than going through a season of uncertain expectations in 2013-14. Or maybe, Iguodala wants to find a niche in which he compete for a championship.
Regardless, Iguodala's decision certainly spices up the free agent market a bit more, as another heavily targeted performer hits the open market. It will be interesting to see if the Nuggets remain in play for Iguodala and if this decision is simply an attempt to force their talks. However, Iguodala may simply want out and a fresh start after being traded a year ago.
Without further ado, let's take a look at the top five potential landing spots for Iguodala this July:

No. 5- Houston Rockets
The Houston Rockets are hoping to make a splash this off-season and while a name like Dwight Howard is their top target, Iguodala could certainly be in the mix. It'd be pretty tough to defend a wing combination of Iguodala and James Harden.
No. 4- Detroit Pistons
The Detroit Pistons need all the back court help that they can get. They have a solid, youthful front court, but a veteran presence and a legitimate scorer could surely help. Detroit may not have the best chances of landing Iguodala -- especially if he wants to win a title -- but, they could make a play at his services.
No. 3- Atlanta Hawks
The Atlanta Hawks can offer two max contracts this off-season and we know that Dwight Howard and Chris Paul are their top targets. With plenty of options though, Iguodala could fit into the team's plans if they cannot land either Paul or Howard, or even both.
No. 2- Dallas Mavericks
The Dallas Mavericks are also looking to make a splash in free agency this summer and Mark Cuban is focused on getting this team back within championship contention. Iguodala could surely be a target in Dallas, especially if O.J. Mayo opts to also test the free agent market this summer.
No. 1- Cleveland Cavaliers
The Cleveland Cavaliers have long been rumored to be targeting a scoring small forward this off-season and that's exactly what Iguodala is. The Cavaliers have four picks in this June's draft and the opportunity to make some noise this off-season. Cleveland could certainly be in play for Iguodala in July.
