2013 NBA Draft: Cody Zeller Getting Some Attention From Sacramento Kings

For some NBA draft experts, Cody Zeller joining the Sacramento Kings just doesn’t seem to be a perfect combination.

It’s hard to say if it will happen, but Zeller did try out with the Kings on Thursday as did many other players before that. It’s not considered that Sacramento’s biggest need is the center spot although Zeller, with the proper progression and development, could turn out to be a valuable asset for the team if he winds up on the roster.

It’s going to depend on how new coach Michael Malone figures he’s going to win with this ball team. If it’s going to take a lot of physical toughness and aggressiveness, Zeller might not be his guy, or at least not on a full-time basis. If he wants to use his players skills to the best of their abilities, then Zeller could be his guy.

Zeller and DeMarcus Cousins in the same lineup seems like a major mismatch, but it’s hard to see how those two particular players would mesh since they’re so different physically and in so many other ways. Zeller is a skilled scorer around the basket and is considered quick and a good ball handler.

His consistency and physical tenacity will come into question.

So why would the Kings take him? If Malone, while giving Zeller a good look during workouts, likes the talents Zeller has and sees a fit for him in his Kings’ lineup, he might be tempted to  make the pick. But the Kings will definitely have to be patient and put in a lot of work with Zeller. He won’t turn the world on fire right away.

But sooner or later, the Kings will make sure he gets the job done.
