Should Houston Rockets Pursue Kyle Korver in 2013 NBA Free Agency

The Houston Rockets have a solid team that can put up points like nobody’s business, thanks in large part to shooting guard James Harden. However, the Rockets cannot rely solely on his top-notch performance next season if they want to reach the NBA Finals. With several players injured to begin the 2013-14 season, Houston needs to acquire one or two free agents to help their cause. Kyle Korver is one player in particular that could make a huge difference.

Even though Korver has stated that he would like to re-sign with the Atlanta Hawks this summer, it is still anybody’s ball game. There are several teams interested in the sharpshooter after he put up solid numbers last season.

The main reason the Rockets should be interested in him is because of his 3-point shooting ability. The 32-year-old converted a career-high 45.7 percent of his 5.6 field goal attempts from beyond the arc during the 2012-13 season. His career 41.9 percent from 3-point range is even more reason why Houston should talk to him as soon as they can.

Even though Houston considers themselves in the running for a big named free agent such as center Dwight Howard or point guard Chris Paul, it is important that the organization concentrate on realistic pieces that could help improve the team immediately. The fact that Korver can backup Harden at shooting guard or Chandler Parsons at small forward is a huge plus. Not to mention, he is capable of starting if something were to happen to one of those two players.
