2013 NBA Free Agency: Golden State Warriors Forward Carl Landry Likely to Opt Out

Chris Humphreys-USA TODAY Sports

The NBA free agency period is approaching quickly, and with all of the attention surrounding big names like Dwight Howard and Chris Paul there will be some mid-level type guys who are going to look to cash in.

One of those guys appears to be Golden State Warriors forward Carl Landry. The 29 year-old veteran has one year left on his deal, however he is said to be choosing to opt out of it and enter the open market.

Reported first by CSN Bay Area, Landry is supposedly going to opt out in the next couple of days:

“Warriors forward Carl Landry is leaning toward opting out of the final year of his contract with Golden State and pursuing free agency, according to his agent.”

“He’s worth a lot more than the contract he has and the direction (we’re moving) toward is him opting out,” said his agent, Mark Bartelstein. “Things can change, but that’s where it’s leaning.”

The former Purdue standout averaged 10.8 points and 6.0 rebounds last season with the Warriors and shot the ball over 54 percent from the field. These stats were good enough to earn him a PER of 17.60.

Without Landry, that opens up a spot the Warriors will need to fill most likely with a guy like Landry himself. Golden State doesn’t have any picks for next week’s NBA Draft and will probably wind up losing backup guard Jarrett Jack to free agency as well. The team is now going to have to fill a couple of spots in their rotation heading into next season.
