2013 NBA Draft: Anthony Bennett Visits, Interviews With Charlotte Bobcats

Anthony Bennett Bobcats Draft

Kelley L. Cox – USA TODAY Sports

With the 2013 NBA Draft less than a week away, the Charlotte Bobcats are getting closer to having to make a decision on who they are going to select with the no. 4 pick in the draft. That means that they are bringing guys in to work out and interview with the team in order to see who fits their needs the best.

The latest prospect to come to the Queen City to meet with the Bobcats was UNLV power forward Anthony Bennett, who visited with the team on Saturday. However, due to the fact that Bennett is still recovering from a shoulder injury, he was unable to work out and show off his skills to the Bobcats.

Bennett is leaving college after playing just one season with the Rebels. He played 27.1 minutes per game in his freshman season and averaged 16.1 points, 8.1 rebounds and 1.2 blocks per game while shooting 53.3 percent from the field and 37.5 percent from beyond the arc.

One of Bennett’s biggest strengths is the fact that he’s an incredibly versatile scorer. Though he’s a tad undersized as a 6’8” power forward, he’s a strong 240 pounds, which allows him to work hard down low and get his shot off in the post. More than that, he can also step out and knock down jumpers regularly.

There are some obvious concerns with Bennett, though. One of the knocks on the big man is that he sometimes takes plays off at the defensive end, something that will obviously have to change at the pro level. He also isn’t incredibly skilled in the post and relies heavily on his strength. He’ll need to develop some moves to effectively get his shot in the NBA.

Though he has some things to work on, his upside as an offensive player and strong athletic big man makes him an attractive option for the frontcourt-deficient Bobcats. There’s no guarantee at this point, but don’t be surprised if Charlotte goes with Bennett in the draft.

Hornets Inexplicably Allow Durant Free Dunk

While I understand that Oklahoma City Thunder SF Kevin Durant is physically intimidating when driving the lane, the Charlotte Hornets should be ashamed of themselves for the defensive effort they put forth during this play. I mean, they didn't even try. The Hornets have made some solid strides this season, but boneheaded mental collapses like this will prevent them from continuing to build momentum.
