Boston Celtics Rumors: Brian Shaw Should Be Atop Team’s Coaching Targets

On Sunday afternoon, an era in Boston came to a close –Doc Rivers is off to the west coast.

The Boston Celtics dealt their general along the sidelines to the Los Angeles Clippers for a first round selection in 2015. Heavy rumors have been the focus throughout the past week or so and now that the two sides have finally reached an agreement, the search for a new head coach in Boston is on.

There’s no timetable for the Celtics to name a replacement for Rivers, especially considering the NBA Draft is just four days away and Boston must make a decision on Paul Pierce‘s contract by Sunday. Then of course, free agency begins on Jul. 1, which is next Monday. There’s a lot going on right now, but now Danny Ainge must fit the time to interview some potential candidates to replace Rivers.

Both Vinny Del Negro and Lionel Hollins have been thrown into the mix, but there’s no foundation as to either of their potential. Then of course, Antoine Walker tweeted that he should be the next coach (we can only hope that he was joking).

Yet in all of this, the answer should be easy — Brian Shaw needs to be the team’s top target.

A young assistant who had two past stints in Boston as a player in the late 80s, early 90s has proven himself and deserves to be a head coach. He’s been amongst the most targeted options for a number of organizations thus far this off-season, but nobody, Clippers included, have made a move.

The door is wide open for Boston to pursue Shaw.
