Brook Lopez Undergoes Another Surgery; Brooklyn Nets Need Him to Stay Healthy

Brook Lopez hurt

Debby Wong-USA TODAY Sports

As shown by numerous NBA stars going down due to injury in the 2013 season, injuries can cripple a team and affect each and every squad in the league. However, the Brooklyn Nets were pretty blessed with good health this postseason and still weren’t able to put away a depleted Chicago Bulls team.

Nonetheless, Brook Lopez underwent another surgery on June 24th to replace a bent screw in his right foot — this is the third operation on Lopez’s right foot in the last two years. This is hardly a trend that the Nets’ front office wants to see, especially since the All-Star played in just five games during the 2011-12 season because of a stress fracture in the same foot. Lopez wants nothing more than to shed the “injury prone” label that has haunted him his entire career.

Daringly, the Nets still offered Lopez a four-year, $60 million contract this past summer and hoped that they would soon reap the benefits.

After his first All-Star campaign in 2013, it’s hard to call Brooklyn foolish, yet the right foot issues surrounding No. 11 could make the Nets regret such a massive contract. I have never been a big fan of Lopez and while many are enamored by his career-high 19.4 points per game this past season, the fact he averaged under seven rebounds in 2012-13 is downright embarrassing.

If the Nets hope to have a winner this upcoming season they’d better hope that Lopez doesn’t have any setbacks because he is currently slated to be out of action until August, which is cutting it rather close to the 2013-14 season opener.

Dwyane Wade Makes Brooklyn Nets Look Foolish

You gotta give the Brooklyn Nets credit: Despite looking incredibly foolish at times in front of their home crowd, they competed against the Miami Heat on Tuesday night and only lost by four points. That said, you wouldn't know it from this epic clip of Dwyane Wade dribbling circles around multiple Nets and ultimately hitting a stellar fadeaway jumper.

Gerald Green Throws Down Monstrous Slam On Nets

Gerald Green hasn't been the most consistent player throughout the early stages of his young career, but there's no denying his overwhelming athleticism. Against the floundering Brooklyn Nets this evening, Green showcased some of those said abilities by emphatically throwing down a monstrous dunk, and he caught some major air in the process. If he's ever able to learn how to do it night-in and night out, Green is going to be an All-Star one day.
