Brian Shaw just can’t seem to come up with a break when it comes to landing his first NBA head coaching job.The assistant coach with the Indiana Pacers might wind up in Indy for the 2013-14 season, not that the Pacers would mind. In their quest for an NBA title, the Pacers would love having Shaw on the sidelines with the players he knows very well.
With the Clippers option having been taken for him, Shaw now has two options left: the Memphis Grizzlies and Denver Nuggets. He has an outside chance for either one, but there are no guarantees. He’s competing against other excellent candidates including former NBA head coaches.
Most teams, if they have their preference, seem to prefer a candidate with a head coaching background, regardless of his previous record. That’s why Byron Scott, a candidate for the Clippers job, might nose out Shaw for other openings.
Shaw is going to have to exercise patience and wait for his chance to come. With the large amount of change in the offseason for coaches, it would have seemed a safe bet that he would land somewhere. It didn’t happen, but it’s going to happen sometime. When it does happen, Shaw could emerge as one of the best coaches in the NBA.
