Houston Rockets Rumors: Thomas Robinson Trade Reportedly “Imminent”

Brett Davis-USA Today Sports

For weeks now, the Houston Rockets have reportedly been pursuing a trade involving Thomas Robinson.

The Rockets want to free up as much cap space as possible before free agency begins on Jul. 1 and moving Robinson has been looked upon as a priority. Well, according to the Houston Chronicle, a deal is potentially “imminent,” but it remains to be seen just who the mystery team is.

Jonathan Feigen credits a person with knowledge of the situation and discusses that the Cleveland Cavaliers, Chicago Bulls and San Antonio Spurs have all been linked to Robinson and any potential trade. At this point however, it does not appear like the Spurs are a likely destination and no trade talks involving Robinson are currently going on between the two sides. However, as for the Cavaliers and Bulls, they could be amongst the potential landing spots. The report indicates however, that the Bulls may only be interested as part of a larger deal, which could complicate things considering the Rockets are only looking to free up cap space.

Robinson was selected with the fifth overall pick just a year ago, but he has bounced around and is surely just looking for some stability. A high-flying power forward who can attack the rim with great aggression, Robinson can certainly be a good fit for someone, but who?

Well, considering that a deal for Robinson is “imminent,” one would think he will find a niche sooner or later. It’ll be interesting to see “who” and “for what” this deal will involve, as details virtually remain scarce.
